How do we dream bigger about what our digital spaces could look like?

A playful web-based prompt generator for imagining digital futures.

Gamemaking and play serve a pivotal role in the learning and ideation process by promoting imagination, experimentation, and curiosity. By tapping into the play mindset, you are able to let your mind wander without boundaries. Building on this idea, I wanted to explore how I could involve play in supporting my interests in exploring alterative digital futures.

With the transition from a community-directed internet to one governed by private big tech companies, it can be hard to imagine a flourishing internet outside of the interests of Big Tech (i.e. lack of data privacy, consumerism, centering ad space, etc). What would our technologies look like if they were built on different values?

This question inspired the creation of a web-based prompt generator built with p5.js to help guide me in exploring speculative and liberatory design around digital spaces.

The prompts in the generator are inspired by various transfeminist, queer, and decolonial design research sources that I have collected over time. These readings all helped me to interrogate what kinds of values can we apply to what has typically been white, male, & western within technology design?
